Early Access Privacy Notice
Draft updated 29 July 2026
This notice explains how My Winkel (Pty) Ltd (“My Winkel”, “we”, “us”) handles personal information while providing its WhatsApp-led storefront and ecommerce service in South Africa.
1. Who is responsible
My Winkel is the responsible party for merchant account, subscription, support, and service-usage information that we collect for our own purposes. A merchant is the responsible party for its shoppers’ personal information; My Winkel processes that information as the merchant’s contracted operator.
2. Information we handle
- Merchant contact, business, subscription, support, and team details.
- Store content, catalogues, media, orders, bookings, quotes, and delivery information.
- Shopper contact and transaction information supplied through a merchant storefront.
- Technical records needed for security, reliability, audit history, and basic analytics.
3. Sensitive payment onboarding
Do not send identity documents, ID numbers, banking documents, proof of address, or liveness material in WhatsApp chat. When a payment provider needs these details, My Winkel directs you to a secure, expiring handoff. Payment activation remains subject to that provider’s checks.
4. Why we use information
We use information to create and operate storefronts, process requested actions, provide support, manage subscriptions, maintain security and audit trails, meet legal duties, and improve the service. We do not enable advertising trackers by default.
5. Sharing and service providers
We share only what is reasonably needed with contracted hosting, messaging, payment, email, analytics, and support providers, or when the law requires it. Each merchant has its own payment-provider relationship and receives settlement directly.
6. International processing and safeguards
Some contracted providers may process information outside South Africa. Where this happens, we use appropriate contractual and organisational safeguards required by applicable law.
7. Retention, security, and your choices
We retain information only for legitimate service, legal, security, and recovery needs. Cancelled storefront data is recoverable for 30 days, subject to legal retention duties. Merchants can request access, correction, export, or deletion by emailing My Winkel support.
8. Marketing messages
Transactional shopper messages relate only to an initiated order, booking, or service. Promotional WhatsApp messages require separate consent, retained evidence of that consent, and an easy way to stop.
9. Website analytics
We use Google Analytics to count page views and understand basic website usage. Advertising personalisation and Google Signals are disabled. Google may process limited device and usage information outside South Africa subject to its contractual and organisational safeguards.
10. Contact and complaints
Contact My Winkel support with a privacy request or complaint. You may also lodge a complaint with South Africa’s Information Regulator.
